Hyperhidrosis

March 2018
Hyperhidrosis causes abnormally excessive sweating that is not related to heat or exercise. This common disorder usually affects the hands, feet, underarms, and face. Excessive sweating can oftentimes lead to skin infections and may cause social and emotional complications.

What causes Hyperhidrosis?

August 2009
Our nervous system automatically signals our sweat glands when when our body temperature rises or we are nervous, causing us to sweat. In cases of hyperhidrosis, nerves responsible for triggering the sweat glands are overactive, regardless of mood or weather. With these conditions, the sweating becomes worse. Although there are some infectious, endocrine or neurological diseases that may cause hyperhidrosis, most cases appear in people who are overall healthy.

Hyperhidrosis Treatment

Jan 2012
If sweating fails to improve with antiperspirants, you may be a candidate for Botox / Dysport to treat hyperhidrosis. Injected just below the surface of the skin, Botox / Dysport blocks the overactive nerves and chemicals responsible for activating the sweat glands. This treatment only disables nerves and prevents sweating where Botox / Dysport is injected, and is more effective with the more units injected. Botox / Dysport are highly effective treatments for hyperhidrosis and has been approved by the FDA.
